Abstract
In studying the art of Islamic countries, inscriptions, like meaningful and decorative elements, are one of the most important tools for expressing and expanding religious beliefs and policies governing society. Muslim artists have chosen different substrates for writing inscriptions, including wooden Minbars. Based on this, the purpose of writing the present research is to classify and compare the content of historical wooden Minbar inscriptions in Iran. In this regard, the research question is as follows: What is the content of the inscriptions of historical wooden Minbars in Iran? And how is their evolution? Examining them can help to better study the cultural and religious conditions of different periods, which is the necessity of the present research. The research method is analytical-descriptive, the information of which is compiled by library method and field surveys. The results of the research showed that from the 4th to the 9th century A.H, inscriptions were written on the wooden Minbars mainly with verses from the Quran. And in later periods, the emphasis on Shiia themes can be seen. This emphasis has been observed from the 11th century to the end of the Qajar period, along with the verses, mostly in the hadiths and poems. In the 4th and 5th centuries of Hijri, we see the use of Quranic verses with monotheistic themes on Minbars. So gradually in the following centuries, the themes of wooden Minbar inscriptions changed and moved towards the relationship between man and God and spirituality, prayers and hadiths have been used more compared
